If I lived to be 150, and had unlimited resources, maybe I could visit all the places I would like to visit. A lot of them start with the letter S. Odd, I know, but I’m a little Strange and EcSentric, okay Silly, too. I’ll Stop now.
I noticed a pattern. The letter “S.” Here goes:
1. Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA – on top of my list. It has been the setting for a number of stories and books that I have read and sounds beautiful. I’ve researched it and it looks beautiful. I’m very interested in indigenous cultures and Santa Fe is the home to the Jicarillo Apache Nation, the Mescalero Apache Reservation and part of the Navajo Nation. I will write more in the future about native reservations and the horrors that took place in our history. At any rate, this is why Santa Fe, New Mexico is at the top of my list.
2. Seattle, Washington, USA – While I love a sunny day, I usually prefer cloudy days. It has to do with my eyes which are sensitive to light. So, while visiting my in-laws in Florida I squint like crazy and try to get out of the sun. I think Seattle is the place for me. The forests, islands and bay (bays?) are breathtaking. But the real reason? The show I’ve been binge watching on Netflix, “The Killing.” The city looks biggish but not too biggish and the scenery is fabulous. Yes, I want to visit a place where fictional horrors took place.
3. Senegal, Africa – A friend at work, as well as some of my students and community members I know, are from Senegal. They bring the country alive for me and talk about the changes that the French colonial power wrought on this land. They talk about the impact of religion and the people, such as my colleague, who are bringing technology into the schools there and literally changing lives.
Now, I have a feeling that because I am interested in these cities, states and countries, you may not be at all. So, to help you not to doze off or horror of horrors, stop reading this post, I’m going to just list the rest and you can figure out why I am attracted to these locales. It will be like a game show.
4. Spain – I’m cheating here because I’ve already been a couple of times but would never tire of visiting again.
5. Scotland
6. Sitka, Alaska, USA
7. Sweden
8. Saskatchewan, Canada
9. Singapore
10. San Francisco, California, USA
Any guesses? Any places you recommend that I should add?
Isn’t Africa also quite sunny? Better bring one of those big floppy hats.

You might want to avoid Sunnyvale, California. But you could enjoy a riverboat cruise on the Susquehanna river, or maybe the MiSSiSSippi.

You’d probably like Srome, Sengland, Smaine, the countryside of Sfrance and some others, but that’s a good start..:)

hahaha….I have been to smaine and sparis, sfrance. This will totally confuse readers who are either not from the US, or don’t understand our sense of humor. I actually meant REAL places.

I actually lived in Saskatchewan as a child for a few years. My family moved to Canada when I was in 3rd to 7th grade. We lived on an open prairie in a double wide trailer. I remember lots of snow in the winter and lots of mud in the spring. 🙂

But I hope that you remember lots of happiness, too. Snowy, muddy happiness.

I’m happy to be a temporary Canadian, even if I only was for four years as a child. Thanks for the mention! And I love the chair. I’m thinking that might come in handy in Ohio, too. 😉

I spent from years in college in Ohio! I went to Ohio Wesleyan in Delaware, Ohio. 😆

I know where I was in central Ohio, the snow wasn’t the issue, although they had like one plow for the entire county (yes I’m exaggerating, but not a lot). The ice was horrific. Inches and inches thick. Then the .melting and refreezing would leave footprints at least 6 inches thick. SO hard to walk. I prefer the snow.

Can’t believe I’m the THIRD person mention Saskatchewan in a comment but….bring a big parka, maybe three. And some snow dogs with a sled. Even if you’re going in the summer.

For my Canadian peeps, Paul, John , Carrie This snowshoe chair was in our house in Alaska back in the day and is now in my house in NY. I don’t know what poor animal was gutted for it, but I’m ready to sit in this chair in Saskatchewan.

Hahaha. Thanks Barb. And if it was made from some poor animals guts you could probably eat it if you got snowed in for days and were starving. Unless there was someone with you then you’d eat them. Then maybe the chair.

Thanks for the visual..not! I’m sure it’s so hard that it would take my teeth out. Bobcat gut? Whale? Moose? I have no idea.

I lived in Singapore for a half-decade. I quite enjoyed it. It’s muggy; be ready to duck somewhere out of the rain, too. But there’s so very much to do there.

Thank you! I’m really bad about awards because although I completely appreciate them, I’m no good about responding; it’s just easier not to. And I’ve forgotten to whom I should respond 1/2 the time. We just got home from the weekend so perhaps I’ll do a blanket award. Thank you again!
